🍉 In June 2025, the GSS adopted the Anti-Palest

🍉 In June 2025, the GSS adopted the Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) framework as laid out in the Arab Canadian Lawyers Association report 'Anti-Palestinian Racism: Naming, Framing and Manifestations.' The aim of this teach-in is to further introduce the description of APR to our members and discuss ways to get involved with organizing taking place on campus.

📑 We encourage everyone to review this report or related links in advance, but it is not mandatory for participation.

👥 This teach-in is to be approached with the intention of fostering understanding about an aspect of discrimination that is rarely discussed. We expect every one attending to show-up in good faith and respect for the work of politically educating each other. Any behaviour that conveys otherwise, will not be tolerated.

🍻 Following the workshop, we invite everyone to join up with other GSS members for our pub night at Biercraft!

🔎 The Graduate Student Society at Simon Fraser

🔎 The Graduate Student Society at Simon Fraser University invites responses to a survey on some of the working and living conditions of international student workers and renters! It is open to all international students in the Lower Mainland (undergraduate and graduate).

🤝 The aim of this survey is to better inform the advocacy at our respective organizations and connect respondents to an initiative that directly informs the advocacy of student living, working and studying conditions.

✊ The data that this survey creates would support the work of groups such as Migrant Students United Vancouver (@msu_van ), Anakbayan SFU (@anakbayansfu ) and Simon Fraser Public Interest Research Group (@sfpirg ).

✌ We encourage all students you to get in touch with the organizations listed above as a resource to international, diasporic and marginalized students if they would like to get in involved or seek advocacy!

The GSS Executive Committee has endorsed the Draw

The GSS Executive Committee has endorsed the Draw The Line campaign — an unprecedented coalition uniting on September 20th to demand that Carney and the Canadian government pick a side: injustice, genocide, and climate destruction— or justice and a safe future for all of us.

Join us for a rally starting at the VPL followed by a gathering at the Science World Park.

What Unions can do for you!

March 7, 2025 (5-7pm)

Simon Fraser University Graduate Student Society
Maggie Benston Centre, #2203, 8888 University Dr, Burnaby, BC V5A 1S6

Description:

Curious about your rights as a worker, what unions are and what they can do for you? Learn some BC history of unions, labour organizing, and how labour victories have and continue to support racialized workers in BC. Hear from our speakers on the difference between unionized and non-unionized workplaces, the benefits of collective agreements and bargaining, as well as, your rights to participate in unions.

The event is an educational workshop that invites student workers to learn about union participation. Some may be in a union, or interested in what being in a union means as a worker. There will be speakers on labour history and union structure from local unions and labour groups, such as United Food and Commercial Workers and Health Sciences Association.
