Hi Grads,

Happy Friday! Vancouver is becoming increasingly hot these days (again), please make sure you stay hydrated while enjoying the sunshine. Here are the updates from GSS this week:

See our most recent Council summary here!

Student Town Hall – Return to Campus: With a nearly full return to campus anticipated this September, and with most classes reverting to an in-person format, SFU’s Student Services is hosting a student town hall to share their plans, discuss the latest developments, and hear the comments and questions of students.

Join them July 27 @ 3:00 – 4:00 pm PT to catch up on what’s planned for fall welcome days, find out what to expect in the classroom (either in-person or online), learn about available supports and services on all three campuses, and get the latest update on campus safety. Details for this event can be found HERE.

ISS will be hosting a series of events for international students. Make sure you check them out:

July 29: GET SFU READY: NEW INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT Q&A. Check out details HERE

July 30: IMMIGRATION UPDATES AND Q&A FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. Check out details HERE

For additional sessions for new graduate students in August, see details HERE

🔈Volunteers for Upcoming Orientation: The GSS is in the planning stage for this fall’s graduate student orientation and we are looking for volunteers to help us with various events!

For this year’s orientation, we need volunteers for:

Zoom Social – 2 orientation social events will be held on Zoom. We will divide all participants into small groups. The volunteer role will be to facilitate these small group activities. This year’s Graduate Orientation Virtual Social will be on the following dates:

Monday,     August 23          12 pm-2 pm

Friday,        August 27           6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

GSS Caucuses Presentation: You will give a short GSS presentation at Caucus orientations,  materials will be prepared by GSS. Volunteers can take the Caucuses orientations that fit their schedules.

Canvas Discussion – New students will post questions about graduate student life on Canvas. As a volunteer, you will write your responses in the open discussion module whenever you have time.

Please email student-life@sfugradsociety.ca  by Aug 6th  if you are interested in volunteering for any/all of these activities. *Please indicate which activities are you interested in volunteering for. Thank you so much.  Detailed dates and other information will be coordinated with you via emails in August.
